Title:

How to find out your BASIS product Serial Number

Description:

Your product serial number registration sheet is an important document and should be kept in safe place for future reference. However, there times when you may not be able to locate this information. Here are alternate methods for determining your product serial number.

PRO5/VPRO5 prior to 2.1x

If you are able to get to a READY> prompt, type the following:

>print ssn

Under UNIX, if you are unable to get to a READY> prompt the following should work:
Change directories to where the pro5 executable resides and type in
        strings pro5 |grep -i ssn

BBj/BBX and PRO5/VPRO5 2.1x or higher

If you are able to get to a READY> prompt without getting a FLEXlm error message, type the following at the pro5 prompt:

>print ssn

If your are getting FLEXlm error message or cannot get to a ready prompt, search the drive for *.lic files. License files are located on the machine that is running the Basis License Manager. Under Unix this is typically in blmgr\ directory. Under Windows the files are typically located in the Basis License Manager\ directory although individual installations may differ. BBj/BBX and PRO/5 license files use the following naming convention:

25PRO5_DEVPRO512345.lic 85BBX601234EWF.lic

#users         feature                  serial number
25         PRO5_DEV         PRO512345

25         EWF                  BBX601234

Under Novell the files should be located on the server's SYS volume in the BASIS\ directory and will be named using an 8-dot-3 notation. For example, RO512345.lic would be the file name for PRO/5 product serial number PRO512345.

ODBC prior to 2.x

In Control Panel, ODBC Administrator, Click on a Basis Data Source, Click on Configure. Select the boxes for logging and enter a path and file name to write the log file. Save the configuration and run a SQL Query. The serial number will be displayed in the log file.

ODBC 2.x or higher

The above method may be used or search the drive *.lic files. ODBC license files are located in the Windows System directory unless they are multi-user. Multi-user license files for ODBC are located on the machine running the Basis License Manager. ODBC license files use the following naming convention:

1ODBC_RWBOD111222

#users         feature                  serial number
1         ODBC_RW         BOD111222
