Title:

Log file types used for ODBC driver diagnostics

Description:

There are two log file types that can be generated to assist in diagnosing ODBC-related problems. These are enabled and configured from the ODBC Administrator.

1) BASIS ODBC log file: This is not useful for diagnosing/tracking specific SQL commands, but it IS good for diagnosing data dictionary problems or SQL optimization strategy issues. This can be specified in the Advanced Setup options for a [BASIS ODBC Driver] data source in the ODBC Administrator.

2) SQL log file: This will monitor all SQL function calls that occur. This is specified in the ODBC Administrator under Options. Note that when this type of logging is active, the ODBC subsystem will log an extraordinary amount of data. Not only will the resultant log file be huge, but the query will run several times slower as the system will be busy writing to the log file.
